🎨 Make an Illustration Portfolio Zine with me at Swansea Zine Fest ✂️

Swansea Zine Fest is a not-for-profit event held to celebrate fanzines and DIY self-publishing. The very first SZF was held in 2018. The organisers are three Swansea-based zinesters and activists. A zine (pronounced “zeen,” as in “maga-zine”) is a self-published, small circulation, non-commercial booklet or magazine, usually produced by one person or a few individuals. Zines can include personal essays, political discussions, fiction, do-it-yourself tips, articles about music or movies, comics, poetry, reviews – anything under the sun! Come along to buy and swap zines and DIY publications from a range of zinesters and creators from Swansea and further afield. We will also be holding some zine readings, craft space, free zine giveaways, and a chance to make your own zine!

This year I took part in the 2021 virtual Swansea Zine Fest and as a part of the fest I created a virtual workshop instructing folks on how to turn an art portfolio into a mini-zine! You can watch that workshop here! It was a really fun demonstration to make and everybody at the fest seemed to respond really well to it! I really hope I can attend the event in person next year, and if I’m lucky I would love to run a workshop!!

As you can see in the video, I made my little mini-zine portfolio all about my love for fan-art! This wee zine is now in my shop, so if you would like to check it out and grab your own copy you can do so here.

I was so proud to be a part of this event, and I had a brilliant day watching all of the zine happenings. Coin-Operated Press also featured in this event, where I made a tutorial making a mini-zine for a special occasion, in this case we were celebrating our birthday! I also really enjoyed the talk by Eleri Buff that explored zines as anti-capatalist resistance as well as the practical workshop from Phoebe Kitcher all about ways to bind zines using different methods! The lineup of creatives was fantastically informative and so much fun! If you want to watch the recording of the event you can find it here on the Swansea Zine Fest YouTube.

I also took part in the 24-hour zine-making challenge… but that is a whole other post!! Check back soon to see more zine-making shenanigans!!

Much love.
